* Classic: 30k and finish the novel. * Finish the novel or bust: any wordcount, finishing is the only goal. * Just hanging around: set a words/hours goal and hang out here without finishing anything.
Feel free to hang out and start writing. We will be set up shortly! Once the threads are up, you can sign up for your goal and update your progress. Anything you've written in December will still count retroactively.

To all FiMo members: looking for something to do in January and beyond? Look no further. Our sibling forum, Steve the WriMo Forum, is hosting events for January and beyond.
You might have seen a couple of mentions of Steve in the daily status threads. Well, this is an invitation to anyone who is still looking to finish their novels in 2015, looking for something to do to change gears, or just looking for something to do.
Steve the WriMo Forum is a writing forum and writers' support group that hosts monthly wrimo challenges as well as non word count goal based challenges to help get that novel from conception to inception to resolution. Sanity is optional. Fun is mandatory. Currently they're hosting a challenge called JWJ - Just Write January. JWJ is a basic WriMo style event, but it allows WIPs and you can set word count goals as well as consistency or time goals. If you're looking to do something less standard there are others there as well, like the Silly Stevian Story Share or the 10,000 hours challenges. Beyond that, Steve hosts challenges like FebNoWriMo, MarchNoWriMo, etc. as well as idea generation, revision, NaNo prep challenges, and all manner of random tiny challenges to help keep the motivation up. If that's not your thing, Steve is also a writers' support group, so hanging out, much slacking and drinking coffee discussion and cheering on happens all year.

I Feel like PPTs allow a more personal touch to novel finishing, and it can be very motivating for fellow FiMoers to cheer you on personally. For those who prefer more sparse updates, PPTs can be used for the same purpose. Or the goal thread for word counts and a note. For those who prefer more discussion, PPTs are amazing.
Perhaps we could integrate both. In one board, the Goal Sign Up and Progress thread would be stickied. Under those would be the PPTs.
The sign up thread would be the same, but with one change: each person's name would link back to their PPT (only needs to be done once). If you updated your thread, then when you update your goals either link to the post in the Notes section or just mention it, and so members are encouraged to interact in each other's threads.
Question: G'morfternooveningight, FiMo. Today's question is from our member Evil Steve.
I like the light theme, but does NaNoFiMo have a dark theme for those who have trouble looking at light themes for too long?
Why yes, Evil Steve, FiMo does indeed now have such a theme, should you choose to come to the dark side. It is called 'NaNoFiMo 2014 - Dark.' You can flip between themes by going to the menu -> Profile -> Edit Profile -> Settings and then selecting your preferred theme from the dropdown. If anyone does try out this theme, do let us know what you think and how it works for you, and we can tweak it accordingly.
Is there any way we can update our word count? I find that really motivating!
There's no official box as such like on NaNo, but there are indeed several ways to report your word count.
1) Post in the Daily Status Report Thread for each day to post what you did that day, and you can update your count for your entry in the Goal Sign Up Thread. 2) Use the Word Count field on your profile to report your word count -- it's under Profile -> Edit Profile -> Personal -> Word Count. This way it will show up under your icon wherever you post. Look at my info to the left to see what it looks like. 3) Put your word count in your signature. 4) Create a progress ticker on tickerfactory.com. A ticker is a graphical progress bar that you can embed in signatures, blogs, posts, forums, etc. To make one, head over to tickerfactory.com. No account necessary: just head over to TickerFactory, select Objects/Actions Counter, enter a password, select your design, and then copy the code it generates into wherever you want to display it. To update it, click your ticker from anywhere, enter your password, and hit next. Done! You don't need to embed it again -- it will automatically refresh when you reload or refresh the page. If you forget your password, no worries...just create a new one! 5) Use an external site like WriteTrack. If you miss your NaNo graph, WriteTrack DOES have nice little boxes to update count, graphs and all sorts of metrics, but it is not linked to FiMo so no one else here will see it unless they're all on that site and following you.

Amy P. Reed: Okay, I just watched the video. Lol Actually, "hey, hey" is part of a song by The Monkeys. Unfortunately, there was one more 'hey' in this one. Lol

Evil Steve: What about hey, hey, you, you, get off of my cloud? Rolling Stones!
Dec 16, 2016 2:23:59 GMT -6
Amy P. Reed: LOL Okay, I accept your Rolling Stones reference. I'd forgotten about that song. I was more into the Monkeys (Davy Jones = Major YUM (back in the day)) than the Stones.
